The Pursuit of Excellence By Eric L. Frazier, Minister Scripture Text: Col. 3:23
The Pursuit of Excellence • (Col 3:22 MSG) Servants, do what you're told by your earthly masters. And don't just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. • (Col 3:23 MSG) Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, • (Col 3:24 MSG) confident that you'll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you're serving is Christ.
The Pursuit of Excellence • Purpose: • To examine what God’s expectations are for us as servants of man • Objective: • To understand that we are really doing our duty to God when we are faithful in our duty to men.
The Pursuit of Excellence (Col 3:22 MSG) • Servants, do what you're told by your earthly masters. • Don't just do the minimum that will get you by. • Do your best. (Col 3:23-24 MSG) • Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you'll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. • Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you're serving is Christ.
The Pursuit of Excellence • What is servant? • A person, male or female, that carries out the commands of another • Every slave is a servant, but every servant is not a slave. • The servant's subjection to a master is voluntary, the slave's is not.
The Pursuit of Excellence • Who is servant? • Fathers, Mothers, Grandmothers and Grandfathers • Children, Brothers, Sisters, Relatives and Friends • Students, Employees, Employers, • Disciples, Apostles, and Christians.
The Pursuit of Excellence • Point 1: Servants, do what you're told by your earthly masters. • We are all working for someone or someone is depending on us in some way to perform a duty or responsibility • Where would the world be without obedience to a master?
The Pursuit of Excellence • Point 2: Don't just do the minimum that will get you by. • Doing the minimum is not excellence • Getting by does not bring honor to God or yourself • All it says is that what you are doing is not really that important to you
The Pursuit of Excellence • Point 3: Do your best. • In other words pursue Excellence • It is the pursuit of excellence that changes the world and impacts the lives of people.
The Pursuit of Excellence • How successful would be in life if we took this command to heart? • How much of a blessing could I be to my family and friends if I did my best? • How much of a blessing could I be to my church and others in need if I did my best? • How would my employer benefit if I did my best?
The Pursuit of Excellence • Point 4: Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you'll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. • The Heart – intellectual creativity and emotional attachment (caring about the outcome) • Don’t worry about the money. Work hard and it will come. If not in this life it will be in the life to come.
The Pursuit of Excellence • Point 5: Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you're serving is Christ. • You are working for man but the reality is that you are working for God • Man gave you job, the opportunity, the responsibility, but God created it all.
The Pursuit of Excellence God gets the glory when we: • Do what we are told by our earthly masters. • Don't do just the minimum that will us by. • Do your best to succeed in all that we do. • Work from the heart for our real Master God • Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master we are serving is Christ.
