  2. Monday, May 6, 2013 Warm-up: Draw or describe what you “see” from the following sentence: Charlie nodded, his mouth bulging with chocolate.

  3. Visualizing AKA: keeping a “movie running in their heads” What: Creating pictures in our heads based on text we read or words we hear. How:Consciously using the words to create mental images Why:Makes reading comprehension possible – if we do NOT visualize, we don’t really understand what we’re reading…

  4. Guided Imagery 1 Key Words?

  5. Guided Imagery 1 Trisha stirred the large stock pot of stew, watching as flashes of bright orange carrot and stark white potato danced around, occasionally peeking through the thick brown liquid as it bubbled and steamed. The stew had a strong, spicy scent, and when she ventured a taste, Trisha was immediately struck by a slap of red cayenne pepper and a bold tanginess that reminded her of the sauce served at her favorite steakhouse. The stew was hot on her tongue, and even the small amount she had taken was enough to warm her throat as it slid down. As she leaned forward, the steam made her face equally warm, and the soft sound of roiling bubbles tickled her ears. It wouldn't be long now until the dish was ready, and the thought made her stomach give a small grumble of anticipation.

  6. Silent Reading • Make sure you’re visualizing as you read. • Using a piece of computer paper, fold it like a hamburger and label it Monday – Thursday. • At the end of class, take 5 minutes to quickly sketch a vivid image you had from the section you read in your book today for MONDAY. • Below your drawing, write down key words that gave you that image.
