What’s the Problem? • Third grade teachers expressed concerns of students with multiple missing assignments. • These students were getting behind on concepts and needed some extra help. • The students had D’s and F’s due to missing assignments.
Students • All participants were picked by the third grade teachers. • Students with the most missing assignments were chosen.
Mrs. K’s Class JC- male BK- male CD –male Mrs. L’s Class AE –Male CS – Female BP – Male/ADD CH – Female/diagnosed with ADD/not medicated Students
Intervention • The intervention took place over a six week period of time. • The students met in the classroom on Tuesdays and Thursdays for twenty minutes. • Two teachers worked with the students to give them assistance. • Study and organization skills were introduced to help the students.
Intervention (cont.) • Students were given a homework folder to keep on their desk at all times. Any unfinished work went into the folder and could be finished during homework club. • Students worked on past due assignments and the current day assignments.
Summary All but one student decreased his missing assignments. Two students had no missing assignments at all. Four students showed improved grades. Three students showed no change for D and F grades.
Recommendations • Absences should be noted as well as grades and missing assignments. • It would be helpful if the students had ten more minutes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
