EMEC presampler monitoring tools Ilya Orlov Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics Novosibirsk, Russia STATUS REPORT
Existing monitoring tools • Calibration ntuples monitoring • Combining the existing ROOT monitoring package with the calibration ntuples • Presampler noise stability monitoring • Quick visualization of histograms after converting • You need to waste time on converting only once • Reusage of the existing monitoring interface
Situation RUN recording • Physics (cosmics) runs: • Automatic processing • Results put in ROOT file (histograms ) • Channel-based • FT/slot-based • Summaries • ROOT monitoring interface • Calibration runs: • Automatic processing • Results in ROOT files (FT/slot-based ntuples) • Lack of appropriate interface for monitoring Processing Monitoring
RUN recording The task • To create the conversion tool for calibration ntuples to monitoring histos OR • To adapt the existing ROOT monitoring interface Processing Calibration ntuples Conversion Monitoring (adapted) Monitoring histos Monitoring (existing)
Converting files • Minuses: • Quite a long process (~ 40 min / run) • Large size of result file (~ 1.5 Gb / run) • Pluses: • Quick visualization of histograms after converting • You need to waste time on converting only once • Reusage of the existing monitoring interface
Adapting the interface • Minuses: • Quite a long building of summary histograms • Need to alter the existing (and working) macros • Pluses: • No need of separate temporary files • No need to waste time on converting • Glancing on the separate channel is fast
Status • Decision: to implement both options… • Now (1.11.09): • Conversion tool for Wave monitoring histograms is ready and works for athena 15.5.0 • The existing interface is modified to correspond to athena-15.5.0 calibration ntuples • Usage: • The tool + the monitoring interface will be used while analyzing the calibration runs in “maintenance mode”
Presampler noise monitoring • Work on noise monitoring tools started by Victor Bobrovnikov • Analysis of coherent and non-coherent noises in EMEC presampler • Time stability of noises • Analysis of correlation between noise sources
Current status • Victor: • Tools creation • September 2008, June – July 2009 cosmics • Ilya: • Tools update • September 2009 cosmics • Olga: • October 2009 etc.
Noise monitoring tools update • Update to athena 15.5.0 • was 15.3.0 – some formats were changed • Reading of ESDs & AODs • The usage of AODs for noise analysis delivers some troubles, but is much much faster • Proper work with GRID Tier0 files • Now it works properly with new locations of runs
September 2009 cosmics Channels grouping by HV and FT doesn’t show any significant differences.
Conclusion • The noises from EMEC PS are very stable • Mean noises values are around 111 MeV • Noises means and sigmas are very stable over time, even considering the interval of ~ 1 year • We have the set of tools for noise stability analysis: • Coherent and incoherent noises • Noises time stability • Can be used not only for EMEC PS
