This study analyzes the impact of a long-lasting drought on the water quality of Biobío River in Central Chile. Trend analysis and sensitivity analysis were performed to determine the changes in hydroclimatic parameters and water quality during the megadrought period.

Discussion and Conclusion • Waterqualitygenerate multidimensional data thatneedsto be studiedstatisticallytoanalyze and interprettheunderlyinginformation. • Trendanalysiswiththe Mann-Kendall test and Senslopeshowed a greaterreduction in nutrientconcentrations, mainlyassociatedwithdecreasedflowmainly in autumnsand summers. • Thelowflowratesassociatedwithdroughtaffectwaterqualitydecreasing pH and suspended solids, nutrients, and increasingtrace metals, sincethe metal dilutioncapacityisreduced. • Thedecrease in waterqualityduringsummerdroughtperiodisrelatedtothehightemperaturesboththewater and thelowerdischarge (lowerdilution of thechemical load of thepointsources).
