  2. How do you define healthy? • Absence of disease? • Feeling good? • Being independent?

  3. Physical Spiritual Individual Person Emotional Psychosocial

  4. Points to ponder… • Defects and deficits in health are part of a sinful world and flesh • We strive to improve, but know we will never be perfect in this lifetime. • Never lose sight of our purpose – glorify God and serve Him and others • Sometimes God’s answer to prayer is medicine and medical care

  5. Whose body is it? • Psalm 139:14, I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. • 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.  • Romans 12:1, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship."

  9. Despite what the media tries to tell us, there are no magic answers to weight loss and a perfect body…

  10. But people try really hard

Characteristics of a fad diet • Promise a quick fix. • Claims that sound too good to be true. • Recommendations based on a single study or testimonials. • Lists of 'good' and 'bad' foods. • Recommendations made to help sell a product. • Eliminating 1 or more of the food groups. • Poor research or lack of evidence

  12. So what IS the answer?

  13. Running the race even when you can’t find your shoes

  14. Be active • Be realistic • Enjoy the exercise • Aerobic component • Consistency • Training for strength • Increase intensity as you are able • Visualize your goals • Enjoy the results
