  1. How to Use ChemSkill Electronic Homework CD (Works with 32 bit PC computers with Win 98 through Win 7)

  2. ChemSkill Computer Programs FCS/3000+CD (“Foundations” PAP Chem) Or CSB/3000+CD (“Builder” AP Chem)

  3. Step 1: Insert the Chemskill CD into a PC computer. Choose the Run command on the Start Menu. Click on the Browse button.

  4. Installing the Chemskil 3000+ program: Choose the “Install” file from the Browse Window. Choose Open

  5. Follow the installation instructions. When you are finished the “Getting Started” window should appear. You should uninstall from this computer, BEFORE installing on another.

  6. If the install process states that some files cannot be found, you have not indicated the correct drive containing the Chemskill CD-ROM and need to go back and fix it.

  7. Use the ChemSkills icon on the desktop to begin a session. Or use the Start Menu/Programs to find Chemskil and the ChemSkill program

  8. Step 2: Registering your name This is the main menu window that will appear every-time you start the program. Be sure that the drive letter designates the drive where the data collection/storage will occur. (Floppy, USB, or Hard Drive)

  9. Step 2: Registering your name The first time that you start the ChemSkill program, it will ask you for your unique file name. You were given this code in class. This registers the grades to you ONLY. Do not share with an another student. You must hit “Enter” before the continue button will light up

  10. 1st time Registration Screen

  11. Type in your name and school ID. (“Called” is optional) Course number is 100 if PreAP and 200 if AP Section Number is your period and two zeros. (EX. 1st period is 100) Click on Save.

  12. Check your information carefully. Your name and ID can’t be changed once you start. Course and section number can be changed if wrong. When satisfied, choose Correct.

  13. We will not do wireless/network transfers, so you must click on No.

  14. Be sure to remember your personal record file name and where it is saved.

  15. Step 3: Introduction Take a few minutes and work through the introductory lessons. They will save you a lot of time later.

  16. ALWAYS CONFIRM YOUR NAME When you start a new session, this verification window should appear. Make sure that you will be credited with the scores that you make. If your file has someone else’s name, follow the instructions given in the box. All of the work on your CUA MUST be your own. This is an INDIVIDUAL assignment and is NOT to be done by a group. Only work on the file that was registered uniquely to you.

  17. Step 4: The Main Menu (PreAP) Use the main menu to navigate to the assigned units. You can also go to the “Scores” window from here.

  18. Step 4: The Main Menu (AP) Use the main menu to navigate to the assigned units. You can also go to the “Scores” window from here.

  19. The “Scores” Window This is a summary of your best scores on every section/unit you have worked. The new program has a print button for a hard copy backup…This can be turned in IF your disk will not upload correctly as a last resort.

  20. Step 5: Working on a Unit Verify the name registered on the disc. This unit summary window shows each section and your BEST score on each section. When you upload your grades, this is what is put into the computer. You may redo any section to get a higher grade (until 100%)

  21. Unit 1: Section 1 Most sections will start with a short tutorial. When you finish reading, click on Next. (DO READ THE TUTORIAL)

  22. Unit 1:1, Exercise Question #1

  23. Chemskill will tell you if you are correct or incorrect and provide more tutorial information. Your section score (so far) is shown at the bottom.

  24. An incorrect answer will be corrected and explained.

  25. When a section is completed, a summary window will be shown. You may choose to continue the unit or to quit.

  26. If you choose to continue the unit, you will go back to the unit window. It will show all of your best scores (so far) on the unit. HINT: When you are satisfied with your scores, print the screen *(Alt Print Screen), copy to a document, and save. JUST IN CASE! Use the Main Menu button to go to other units or the overall score window.

  27. Step 6: Exiting ChemSkill When you are finished and choose to quit… BACK UP YOUR GRADE FILE ON YOUR HARD DRIVE! (Or floppy/stick if working on hard drive) If you are using the school computers, DO NOT SAVE ANYTHING TO THE HARD DRIVE! All work must be done on your USB stick or floppy disc.

  28. Bring your Student Grade Disc to class and upload it onto the designated computer on or before the “CUA” due date.If using a floppy disc, ALWAYS bring your backup disc in case the original disc malfunctions.

  29. These computer unit assignments are designed to be worked on throughout the curricular unit, not JUST the night before it is due. • INDIVIDUAL scores must be uploaded in the teacher’s computer on or before the due date. Late uploads are not accepted for credit. • This is a “paperless” assignment (as is common at most colleges and universities) and is to be recorded using your registered data file. However, if you have issues uploading the file: • Double check that the “Tmp-3000” folder is listed on your USB drive and that the latest “filename.dat” score file is in it (or listed alone if using floppy disc). If you only work on the hard drive of your computer, the latest scores will not be recorded on your USB drive/floppy disc and your scores will not be uploaded. Be sure to designate the drive letter of your USB drive/floppy disc on the opening screen every time you work on the CUA to keep an accurate data file. • If your scores do not upload correctly, then you may turn in a paper copy of the scores window of your program by the due date. This is only a “last resort” option and requires that you sign a statement that verifies that the paper copy is a true and correct representation of your INDIVIDUAL work.

  30. And that’s all Folks! Happy Homework!!
