  2. Our Two Problems: • Fewer than 40% of students who were testing into DWRI 0093 each semester were choosing to enroll in the class. • Approximately 40% of those who did enroll in DWRI 0093 each semester would fail or withdraw.

  3. DWRI Enrollment Has Increased! In Fall 2006, we had104 DWRI 0093 students. In Fall 2007, we had 197 DWRI 0093 students! +93 students (89.5% increase) In Spring 2007, we had 92 DWRI 0093 students. In Spring 2008, we have 189 DWRI 0093 students! +97 students (105% increase)

  4. Brookhaven’s Replacement Model DWRI 0093—3 credit hours • 1.5 hours weekly are spent working with the instructor and classmates in class. • 1.5 hours weekly are spent working outside of class on computerized lessons/quizzes.

  5. No Learning Gains Yet In Fall 2006, we had 63 successful DWRI 0093 completers. (60% of the population) In Fall 2007, we had 114 successful completers (58%) However, the GOOD news is . . . 51 more students exited DWRI in Fall 2007. (81% increase)

  6. Cost Savings! In Fall 2006, we spent $168.17 per student. In Fall 2007, we spent $106.17 per student. (a savings of $62 per student) In Spring 2007, we spent $201.16 per student. In Spring 2008, we spent $136.21 per student. (a savings of $64.95 per student)

  7. Overcoming Obstacles Our primary challenge: Outside lab work is not being completed by enough students. Our proposed solution: Computer lab space has been allocated; on-campus lab times will now be mandatory.
