  1. Cherryfield Fire Department Live Burn Training Pre-training Information to be completed prior to live burn training

  2. Live Burn Trainer • Capabilities: • Live fire training • Forcible entry training • Roof ventilation training • Search/ thermal camera training • Command and communication training • And much more

  3. Instructors • General qualifications: • All a minimum firefighter one • Certified “Kidde fire trainer operators” • Certified NFPA Training Instructors • Certified NFPA 1303 Propane burn Operators

  4. Prerequisites • All personnel • Should have a minimum of 100 hours of basic classroom firefighting training • Have a current SCBA fit test • Be an active member of the department setting up the training. • Ensuring these prerequisites are met is the responsibility of the Chief of the Department setting up the training.

  5. Crew Sizes • Minimum crew of 6 firefighters will be required to use live fire • A maximum of 18 firefighter will be allowed with the normal instructor crew • Additional instructors would increases the maximum number of trainees

  6. Availability • Saturdays & Sundays • The end of May to the end of September • First come first serve basis • Lead Instructor can cancel training at any time do to adverse weather

  7. Training Schedule • Cherryfield Fire Station: • Upon arrival everyone will report inside to the classroom for pre-burn briefs • Safety walk thru for everyone • Training commences • Lunch • Training continues • Training concludes ALL hands clean-up

  8. Training Outline • Prior to training: • A list of possible training scenarios will be chosen • A level of difficulty will be chosen • Day of training: • Outlines will be reviewed and approved • Training can commence

  9. Equipment/Facilities • Training in Cherryfield • Trainee department must provide: • 1 Pumper/Engine, with 1250gpm+ pump • All PPE including SCBAs for interior crews • All firefighting equipment (attack hoses, ladders, vent saws, axes, thermal cameras, etc.)

  10. Equipment/Facilities • Training in Cherryfield • Cherryfield fire department will provide: • Second Pumper • Water supply, Tanker • First aid equipment • Rehab equipment • All consumables (propane, smoke fluid, etc.)

  11. Equipment/Facilities • Training in Cherryfield • Cherryfield fire department will provide: • SCBA filling • Classroom with projector • Rest rooms with showers • Coffee and lunch if requested

Equipment/Facilities • Training away from Cherryfield: • Trainee department will provide: • A level area approximately 100’x 100’ with good drainage for the training unit • 2 Engines/ Pumpers with 1250gpm+ pumps • Water supply • All PPE including SCBAs for interior crews • All firefighting equipment (attack hoses, ladders, vent saws, axes, thermal cameras, etc.)

  13. Equipment/Facilities • Training away from Cherryfield: • Trainee department will provide: • First aid equipment • Rehab equipment • SCBA filling • Classroom with projector • Rest rooms

  14. Training Parking • Cherryfield Fire Station: • Apparatus should be parked at the edge of the paved area nearest the burn trainer • Privately owned vehicles should be parked in the gravel area closet the main road

  15. Cost Overview • In Cherryfield: • Consumables (propane, smoke fluid, compressed gasses, plywood) • Apparatus maintenance and fuel • Administrative costs • Instructor costs • Burn trainer maintenance

  16. Cost Overview • Outside Cherryfield: • Consumables (propane, smoke fluid, compressed gasses, plywood) • Transportation costs • Administrative costs • Instructor costs (including lodging if needed) • Burn trainer maintenance
