Hugo van Staden has successfully exhibited sculpture and paintings in South Africa. He became an Australian citizen in 2000
At the age of 8, he won a junior sculpture competition – his prize was to spend 10 days with South Africa’s foremost sculptor, Anton van Wouw, at his home and studio in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. This stimulated his interest, and he continued to study under Mary Steinbeck at the Durban Technicon.
Later he worked with Menghetti of Milan,Italy on sculpture and painting commissions.
Hugo recently relocated to Thurgoona NSW a suburb of Albury, which is one of the twin towns on the border between NSW and Victoria. • He hopes to be inspired by his new lifestyle
