  1. Eyelid Sensor - Software Characterization Presentation Spring 2012 Performed by: Boaz Blankrot Leon Karabchevsky Instructor: Stanislav Shapiro Duration: 1 Semester

  2. Table Of Contents • Introduction • Project’s Basic Concept • Project’s Goals • Project’s Requirements • Project’s Overview • Overall Block Diagram • Estimated Timeline

  3. Introduction • Neuro-ophthalmologists and eyelid surgeons analyze lid motility for assessing ptosis, third and seventh nerve palsy, myasthenia gravis, Graves’s disease, and Parinaud’ssyndrome. Currently, mainly static measurements of the lid fissure and levator action (amplitude) are done routinely. • Many different techniques have been used to measure the time course of blinks using coils, camera, lever arm and photosensitive position detector, but no clinical tool is widely available.

  4. Project’s Basic Concept Data FFT\other process User controls Eyelid Data Real time data

  5. Project’s Goals Creating a unique set of software for PC and ESMD, which will be user friendly and able to perform the following tasks: • DAQ from the ADC and initial processing (on the chip) • Data transfer from the portable device to the PC (USB) • Post processing of the data on the PC. • Calibration mode • RT and offline mode support • DB storage option for offline mode usage

  6. Project’s Requirements • Ability to store the parameters for 10 measurements each measurement takes 10-15 minutes • ESMD software slave/master control • Ability to synchronize the two chips’ RTC with external time reference source (PC) • Low-power operation while in DAQ mode • Alert for “low-battery” state • LED indication of operation state • Accept user input via buttons

  7. Project’s Overview • Establishing basic EMSD capabilities (RTC, USB & Memory) • Designing embedded software for DAQ and pre-processing capabilities. • Designing a unique high-level software for PC, that enables communication with EMSD, creating the database, performing various graphs and storing the database for further inspection by physician.
