Dennis – Test Case. • Nearly 15, at end of S3. • Dramatic deterioration in Dennis since S2. • Never managed a complete week in school. • Low level persistent misbehaviour. • Late-coming, fights, arguments. • Failed to return home. • Supportive parents, separated 18 months ago.
Team Around The Child – Level One. • Guidance teacher decides to call a level one meeting. • In our multi-agency “test case” discussion at Morgan, we envisaged that the school would already have taken steps to address some of the issues.
Team Around The Child – Level One. Discussed with pupil why this meeting was convened. Who did Dennis want to attend? ( atthe next meeting ) What did he hope to gain from the meeting? Who did he want to attend? Actions revolve around the child / family, not doneto the family.
Team Around The Child – Level One. As a school, where appropriate we would work with our partner agencies. In Dennis’ case these might include : Who did he want to attend? • Pupil Support Workers • SCSS • Xplore
Lessons learned from trial In Morgan Academy, we already convene Level 1 meetings frequently – not knowing that they were called this. These are integral to our existing practice. On average, each guidance teacher can have 5 or more TATC meetings per week. Who did he want to attend?
The Future • Raising awareness to all pupils and staff. • Joint training – sharing expectation. • Realistic timelines post JAT. • Who is the coordinator and what • is their role? In Level 1 it is the • named person. Who did he want to attend?
