  2. Total Population • In the last twenty years : • Preston’s population has declined 4,464 persons. • The number of occupied private dwellings has increased by 59 dwellings and, • The average household size has fallen from 2.80 to 2.39

  3. Household Structure • In the last fifteen years in Preston: • The proportion of households that are two-parent family households has decreased from 38.1% to 31.1% • The proportion of households that are single person households has increased from 22.4% to 26.8%

  4. Age Structure • In the last twenty years in Preston: • The number of persons aged under 24 years has declined 4,114. • The number of persons aged over 50 has declined 2,216. • But the number of persons aged 25 – 50 years has increased by 1,865

  5. Country of Birth • In the last twenty years in Preston: • The proportion of overseas born persons has increased from 31.8% to 37.3%. • The number of persons born in Italy has declined by 1,079 • The number of persons born in China has increased by 692

  6. Languages • In the last ten years in the Preston SLA (Preston, Reservoir, Kingsbury and Bundoora within Darebin) : • The number of Italian speakers declined by 2,844 • The number of Arabic speakers increased 888 • The number of Chinese language speakers increased by 1,694

  7. Religion • In the last ten years in the Preston SLA • The number of Orthodox Christians increased 505 • The number of Catholics decreased 2,697 • The number of Anglicans decreased 2,880 • The number of Buddhists increased 1,803 • The number of Muslims increased 2,260

  8. Occupation • In the last fifteen years in Preston the proportion of persons: • Working as Managers, Administrators and professionals more than doubled from 11.7% to 25.8 % • Working as Tradespersons declined from 17.2% to 12.1% • Working as labourers declined from 17.1% to 10.4%

  9. Qualifications • In the last twenty years in Preston the proportion of persons with: • A Bachelor Degree or higher qualification increased from 2.0% to 14.9%. • No post-High School qualification declined dramatically from 86.6% to just 66.4%

  10. Industry of Employment • In the last twenty years in Preston, the proportion of persons employed : • In manufacturing declined from 38.2% to 17.9% • In Finance, Property or business services increased from 6.5% to 16.2%
