Our School’s Bullying Prevention Rules • We will not bully others. • We will try to help students who are bullied. • We will try to include students who are left out. • If we know that somebody is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and an adult at home.
Definition of Bullying(M.G.L. c. 71 section 370) • “Bullying”, the repeated use by one or more students or by a member of a school staff including, but not limited to, an educator, administrator, school nurse, cafeteria worker, custodian, bus driver, athletic coach, advisor to an extracurricular activity or paraprofessionalof a written, verbal or electronic expression or a physical act or gesture or any combination thereof, directed at a victim that: (i) causes physical or emotional harm to the victim or damage to the victim’s property; (ii) places the victim in reasonable fear of harm to himself or of damage to his property; (iii) creates a hostile environment at school for the victim; (iv) infringes on the rights of the victim at school; or (v) materially and substantially disrupts the education process or the orderly operation of a school. For the purposes of this section, bullying shall include cyber-bullying.
OlweusClass Meetings Weekly class meetings will take place with one meeting per month scheduled on a Friday during the community meeting or advisory slotas specialists will be assigned to a classroom and asked to attend/co-plan at least one class meeting a month. Goals: • Build a sense of class cohesion and community. • Teach the rules and consequences of bullying-like and bullying behaviors. • Help students understand their role in unkind bullying-like and bullying situations. • Address bullying-like issues as they arise.
On the Spot Intervention All staff follow the On The Spot Intervention Steps to intervene, to protect a student who is being treated unkindly. • Stop the bullying-like behaviors • Support the student being treated unkindly • Name the unkind behavior and refer to the four anti-bullying rules • Empower the bystanders with appreciation of their support or how to act in the future. • Follow through by filling out Lawrence Behavior form and according to steps in “LOTSI and Follow Through” guidelines. • Take steps to prevent future negative interactions
