  2. FAMILY RESOURCES AND OPPORTUNITIES Talking to your child about what they are doing in school. Talking to your child about their future hopes, dreams and plans. What does your child like and dislike about school? What classes in school do they do well? What are your child’s interests?

  3. FAMILY RESOURCES AND OPPORTUNITIES  Are your child’s friends serious about their education? Are there members of your family or do you have friends that have gone to college that can talk to your child? Who are role models that you can point to as an example of someone that graduated from college and became successful?

  4. SCHOOL RESOURCES AND OPPORTUNITIES  Attending open house, parent/teacher conferences, athletic events, performances, PTA/PTO meetings, volunteering at the school, etc. Know who to speak with at your child’s school if you have specific questions, who is in charge, what is the chain of command.

  5. SCHOOL RESOURCES AND OPPORTUNITIES  GEAR UP Project Associate or Coordinator Guidance Counselor Become familiar with your child’s Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and Individual Graduation Plan (IGP)

  6. REGIONAL RESOURCES AND OPPORTUNITIES  Local Colleges and Universities  Business and Industry Leaders  Local Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, Housing Authority, Jaycees, Lions Club, Kiwanis, Rotary Club, etc. Local law enforcement agencies  Faith Based Organizations
