FIRST POLITICAL PARTIES FORMED OVER WHAT? • FEDERALISTS VS. ANTI-FEDERALISTS. FEDERALISTS—FOR STRONG CENTRAL GOVERNMENT. ANTI-FEDERALIST– STRONG STATE GOVT. SUPPORT BILL OF RIGHTS.
ADVANTAGES OF TWO PARTY SYSTEM • Two options to choose from. REP. DEM. • One party can get a majority to run govt. • Firm ideologies or beliefs for each party. • Allows for discussion on issues, not just dominated by one party. • Allow for watchdog party.
Closed primary– only those who are registered with party are allowed to vote. Dem chose democrats Rep Chose republicans Opened primary– all voters may participate, even if they do not belong to the party, but can vote in only one party’s primary. Voter chooses which ballot they want. CLOSED VS. OPEN PRIMARIES
