Purpose and major components • This component looks at how HI can support DPOs to engage in concrete actions to promote changes for people with disabilities. • Purpose: Stakeholders (target and levels may vary from one project to another) better understand people with disabilities, their rights, abilities and situation and modify their practices to become more inclusive • The Policy Paper divides this component into 4 parts: • Developing strategic interventions (planning) • Working modalities • Examples of actions • Measuring advocacy
Types of actions (examples) • Awareness-raising campaigns/ activities using different mediums • Support to stakeholders to make their practices inclusive of and accessible to people with disabilities • Training targeted stakeholders on their responsibilities towards implementing the human rights of people with disabilities • Participation in existing decision-making forums (e.g. to build local development plans) • Forums to inform authorities about existing discriminations and violations of rights • Taking part in working sessions to influence the development of key strategic documents (PRSP, UNDAF…)
