She had no reliable transportation, suffered a debilitating injury, and worked 2 jobs while taking college classes to reach her goal of becoming a nurse. With this gift she was able to continue working toward her nursing degree. • A young mother left her abusive husband and has been fighting for complete custody of her 2 sons. She was awarded a grant to assist her in meeting her financial obligations as she works through this difficult period. • A single woman with diabetes was diagnosed with uterine and ovarian cancer. 6. History The Fairy Godmother’s Fund is an endowed fund at the South Dakota Community Foundation. It provides funds to help improve the health and well-being of South Dakota women with limited resources and helps to address immediate, short-term, critical needs. The funds are permanently endowed and the earnings are available for distribution. The Fairy Godmother’s Fund was started in January 2009. It was introduced at the 1st Annual Women’s Lifestyle Conference. At the conclusion of that Conference, it was announced that almost $12,000 was raised to begin the Fairy Godmother’s Fund. Since that time, the fund has grown to more than $75,000 from over 400 donors. The Advisory Board, made up of women from across the state of South Dakota, has granted nearly 40 wishes since its inception. Through your generous contributions, we can continue to help dreams come true to those women in need. Thank You!!! ginger@sdcommunityfoundation.org

  7. Fundraising Tip Looking for an easy way to raise money for the Fairy Godmother Fund? Once each month, invite 10 friends out to lunch at a local restaurant. In the invitation tell them you are meeting for lunch and there will be no “shop talk”– only conversation and fundraising brainstorming ideas for a charity, specifically the Fairy Godmother Fund. Also tell them to bring lunch money and ten dollars. This works well for individuals who would like to attend but need to return to work within a short time. This is just a suggestion. You can come up with your own ideas that you can put to work!
