Riverview Tornado • June 7, 2007, Thursday, about 5:00 p.m. • Bear Paw Resort, hwy 55 in White Lake: almost every building destroyed • Tornado continued northeast, about ¼ to ½ mile wide path • Crossed hwy 64 just east of Shadow Lake Rd • Destroyed (or severely damaged) many homes • Half-Way Bay lost part of their roof • Riverview Town Hall severely damaged; doors blown out; all out buildings destroyed Riverview Tornado
Riverview Tornado (cont) • Dick Booth had to destroy many of his horses who were severely injured when the barn was damaged. • Many homes severely damaged along Tar Dam Rd between 32 and Old 32. Riverview Tornado
Riverview Tornado (cont) • The community immediately mobilized, clearing the roads of trees and determining property damage and any possibly injuries. • Restoration of power was complicated by the fact that many poles had to be replaced. • Friends and families were supplying food, water, ice, generators to families with damage. Riverview Tornado (cont) These photos were taken along hwy 64 traveling west about 2 hours after the storm. On the photos taken toward the south, the setting sun illuminated the tree trunks which were snapped off and stripped of bark. The air was filled with the scent of recently cut timber.
