Formula • Thesis = A+B+C (sometimes D, E, etc.) • A = point #1 • B = point #2 • You get the idea… • Essay = Intro w/ thesis + (A+B+C) + Conclusion • Example thesis: • (A) The Arab spring, initially greeted as a euphoric wave of revolution, (B) which began with the Tunisian and Egyptian ousting of their dictators, (C) has evolved into the messy reality of trying to build new, stable governments.
III. Must-haves • Must have WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE. • Info usually provided in the writing prompt itself. • Example: • (A) The Arab spring, initially greeted as a euphoric wave of revolution, (B) which began in the winter of 2011 with the Tunisian and Egyptian ousting of their dictators, (C) has evolved into the messy reality of trying to build new, stable governments.
