Writing a Body Paragraph with Evidence • Topic sentences must be followed by evidence. • Choose one main idea and turn it into a topic sentence. • Consider the hamburger method: Your turn: Draft your body paragraphs including a topic sentence and an explanation of evidence to support the claim of the sentence. Introduce evidence The stories are inspirational. Name or use a quote from a story that you consider inspirational. Evidence from the book Explain evidence Explain WHY you chose this piece of evidence or how it’s inspirational.
Writing a Conclusion Paragraph • Rephrase your thesis statement. Do NOT just copy it word for word from the introductory paragraph. Rephrase it—change it up a little. • Review the main ideas from the body paragraphs. • Explain your thesis again. Use different language than you did in paragraph 1. • End with a command.
Adding Transitions Transitions make your writing much more interesting and easy to understand. Take time now to find some transitions that you like and add them to your essay as needed.
