REFERRALS • Referrals may be made by parents or teachers during referral windows. • A referral does not mean that a student will be tested for gifted eligibility. • Work samples and test scores must be collected. Samples should be good representations of the student’s abilities. • Eligibility team makes a determination: • More information is needed • Refer for eligibility testing • Wait and Watch

  5. REFERRAL WINDOWS2009 - 2010 • FALL: October 6 – 16, 2009 • WINTER: January 4 – 15, 2010 • SPRING: May 3 – May 14, 2010 • Students in this window should be new to the system & will be evaluated the following fall.

SYSTEM-WIDE TESTING • Students may be referred as a result of system wide testing. • CRCT scores can not be used to qualify a student for the Venture program. • September • ITBS and CogAT • Scores used as eligibility components • Scores from tests are used for two (2) years to determine gifted eligibility

Creativity and Motivation • Creativity and motivation will be assessed using different instruments this year. • Elementary students will be assessed using the Gifted Evaluation Scale (GES-2). • Certified faculty members will complete the scales. • All items on the rating scale must be completed to get an accurate score. • Rating scales are confidential testing materials.

  8. ELIGIBILITY PROCESS INQUIRIES • Work with your Venture teacher • Forms you receive are confidential and vital to the referral process • Refer parents to the Venture teacher

  9. REFERRAL PROCESS • No action to test is taken until PARENTALCONSENT form is received by the Venture teacher • Results are NOT given over the phone • Board Policy Regulations outlines eligibility requirements • Notification is in person or by mail • Services cannot begin for an identified student until PARENTAL CONSENT to serve is received by the Venture teacher • Testing instruments are confidential

  10. YOU’RE IN GIFTED. . . NOW WHAT? • Attendance isnot optional. Absences are governed in alignment with the system’s policy • Continuation in the program is dependent upon both Venture class performance and performance in the regular classroom • The curriculum is differentiated in content, process, product, and learning environment.

PROGRAM WITHDRAWAL & RE-ENTRY • Parent Request • Must be expressed in writing to the Venture teacher and/or Gifted Coordinator • Once student has been withdrawn, he/she is out of the program for the remainder of the school year • Parents may request re-entry into the program at the beginning of the new school year • Re-entry is NOT automatic – written request must be made to Venture teacher and/or Gifted Coordinator
