Predators include- Friskal Shrike, Birds, Boomslang, a Tree Snake, rats , spiders, and ants. • The Chameleon camouflages better when the predator has bad vision. • When they camouflage the predators can avoid seeing them. • There is another lizard that can camouflage, it is called a anole. • To escape from predators another strategy is to lose their tail and grow it back later.(in a month) • Some times they change colors because of the season, month, the light and temperature, the environment, or happy or upset. • When they camouflage it’s controlled by homones.
They also are helped by scales called pigments. • To spread color they use cells called melen o phares. • Some chameleons are shaped like leaves so predators can’t see them that well. • Being slow can also help them escape from predators. • There are certain cells with certain colors.
How are chameleons tongue longer than ours, and how does that help them?
Their tongue can be twice their body length. • It snaps out at 10 meters per sec.. • Their Tongue has very little weight, strikes out at a little force, and at a high speed. • The tongue is powered of a muscle launched by a boney support, it is called a accelerator. • A concertina like muscle it used to bring the tongue back. • The tongue is shaped like a tube so when it isn’t sticking out it is bunched up in its mouth.
When it sticks its tongue out it almost never misses, that is because it’s cross eyed, so it aims better. • It eats mainly insects.
