Operation CURB is a London-wide initiative instigated by the Metropolitan Police in response to the many tragic deaths of teenagers in our Capital City during 2007. As you know these have continued in to 2008.In Hackney, we approached our partners and decided to identify individuals suitable for Enforcement, Prevention and Deterrence and Early Intervention. We asked different partners to lead in each area.
A Partnership between Hackney Police, The Youth Offending Team (Mobile Intervention Team), Youth Support Teams, Safer Schools, The Learning Trust and The Foundation Training Company • High Tier – Enforcement - Police • Medium Tier – Prevent and Deter – YOT(MIT) • Early Intervention Tier –Coming to notice in school (Bullied, Victim, Signs of aggression, violence) – Youth Support Teams • Low Tier – Those no longer in above (Prison, YOIS, Education, Work,Training or engagement) - Monitored
Hackney Police CURB Offender Management Unit (COMU) started as a pilot in Nov 2007 with a Sergeant and four Constables • Set a target of reducing serious Youth Violence by 10% over 3 months, achieved 15% reduction by March 08. +30% in Nov 07. • New target for 2008/9 year – 12% reduction. Currently 23.7% • Team expands to 2 Sergeants and 8 Constables in June 08
