TOTAOT maximum in eye of hurricane • Combination of low pressure, taller column, and sea salt aerosol are expected as the cause for this maxima in Total Aerosol Optical Thickness. (paraphrasing Arlindoda Silva and Pete Colarco comments on these plots)
New AIRS data source prelim eval • Preliminary examination shows that the new source for AIRS data is giving us reasonable AIRS data. • Number of OBS is slightly larger in new data source
HIRS spike in cost function • METOP-IASI instrument is undergoing decontamination from 20100830 to 20100904. This loss of IASI data results in change of “sig O” for HIRS instruments with similar orbit swaths. Increase in cost function is a response to removal of IASI data. (paraphrasing Will McCarty)
