4. CAREER & COLLEGE PROMISE PROGRAM Career & College Promise (“CCP”) is North Carolina’s dual enrollment program for high school students. This program allows eligible NC high school students to enroll in college classes at North Carolina community colleges while remaining at their assigned high school. Students who successfully complete college courses can earn college credit that can transfer to other post-secondary institutions after graduation from high school or receive certification or diploma in several career pathways. This is different from the CMS Middle College Program which we will discuss later.

CCP and Butler High School • Career & College Promise affords Butler students the option to pursue dual enrollment classes at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) and choose from the following pathways – AT NO COST: • ​College Transfer - Designed for students planning to continue their educational career beyond high school to eventually achieve an Associate's or Bachelor's degree at a community college or university. To see how your courses from CPCC may transfer to YOUR 4-year college you should research the courses you wish to take prior to registration. • Career & Technical Education - Allows students to begin a certification or diploma program in a particular technical field or career area.

CCP Payment Information • Tuition for CCP students is covered by the state of NC for Fall & Spring semesters • Non-CMS students are responsible for student CAPS fee, insurance fees, & books • CMS students are responsible for insurance fees & books • Talk to your CDC about CMS-provided book vouchers • Students are emailed when bills are posted

7. College Transfer Pathways Only: Demonstrate college readiness by achieving the required scores on a single test or by combining test scores in the areas of English, Reading and Mathematics from any of the approved assessments below:​ ​ ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS To participate in the CPCC Career and College Promise (CCP) program at Butler High School applicants must: ​​Be a rising Junior or Senior and on track for graduation Hold a minimum 3.0 weighted GPA (Required for College Transfer; Recommended for Career & Technical Pathway) Be able to provide own transportation to CPCC campus location *Be aware that Butler can use discretion on the program requirements. ​

8. Eligibility Requirements (Cont.) Students wishing to take the College Transfer Pathway but do not have the test scores to deem them eligible, may enter as a "Provisional Status" student. ​NOTE: ​A Provisional Status Student can only register for college mathematics (MAT) and college English (ENG) courses within the chosen Pathway. You can still take addition Career Pathway courses as a Provisional Status Student. Don’t meet the test scores but still want to take College Transfer Courses?? Provisional Status students must meet the following requirements: -​Hold a minimum 3.5 weighted GPA -Complete Algebra II or higher with a C or better -Complete 2 years of high school English with a C or better

9. Fall 2017 Schedule • Fall Terms Dates: August 16 - December 12 (16 weeks) • Short Sessions (8 weeks are available, however are not recommended for first time CCP students. • All CCP students must follow the CPCC academic calendar for CPCC courses – you must attend your CPCC classes even if your HS is not in session! • Full academic calendar available @ www.cpcc.edu/calendar/academic • CCP Interest Forms are due to Ms. Boeche by March 27th. Student may also take summer courses over their 2017 summer, however not all the costs are covered by CMS. Please indicated which semester you are choosing on your application.

10. APPLICATION PROCESS ButlerHighCareerCenter.Weebly.com Important Note: Registration for CPCC’s Career and College Promise Program is a process with specific and necessary steps. Failure to complete any of the steps below will result in exclusion from the Career & College Promise Program. You are applying to college through this process and will be held accountable for all necessary steps. Read the following information carefully.​Summer/Fall Application Deadline: Monday, March 27, 2017 (Returning CCP Students will only need to complete Step 4)​

11. Step One • Step 1:Attend an information session at CPCC. It is a good way to take a comprehensive look at CCP and whether it is the right fit for you. Information Sessions are held every Monday at 4:30pm. Sessions are located in in Central High 331 (see map below). Parking is behind the Central High Building off Kings Drive. Parents are encouraged to attend! (Recommend but not required)

12. Step Two • ​Step 2: Complete the CCP online application. You can access the form at the link to the left. Once your application has been processed you will receive an admissions letter by email from ccp@cpcc.edu. This letter will include your Student ID Number (You will need that number when creating your CPCC login and to complete the Butler CCP Application). If you do not receive an email with your Student ID within 3 business days of submission, please check your junk or spam email folder. If it is not there, contact: kimber.morton@cpcc.edu​.

13. Step FOUR Step Three • Step 3: Create your CPCC Login. After you complete the Online CCP Application you will receive your CPCC ID # within 24 hours through the email that you used to register, you will use this to crest your CPCC login. NOTE: YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REGISTER WITHOUT CREATING A CPCC LOGIN. • Step 4: Activate your CPCC E-mail Address. CPCC provides an official student email account to every student. Your CPCC Login is also your CPCC Email. This CPCC email is the college's official means of communicating with students, the Cashiering Office, instructors, advisors, and for campus alerts. You should check your CPCC student email every day.​

14. Step Five • Step 5: Complete the Butler CCP Application. You can access the form at the link to the left, or see Mrs. Bo for an application. Type directly onto the application and please open in Microsoft Word ONLY, do not open in Google Docs. • Once complete, print and sign the hard copyand return to Ms. Bo for review. (College Transfer Pathway Students ONLY): Proof of your eligible test scores must be stapled to your Butler CCP application. You may use a combination of scores to meet eligibility requirements. Test scores can be found online through CollegeBoard.org, ACT student.org, or through your school counselor. If you are not eligible based on your scores you will need to take the CPCC Placement Test (this can be done at a later date). Students who do not meet the testing requirements may also enter as a provisional student (See Ms. Bo for more info).

15. Step Six • Make sure to turn in your application before the due date. Summer/Fall Application Deadline: Monday, March 27, 2017. All the steps should take no more thatn 48 hours to complete (only due to the waiting time on your CPCC ID)

16. PROGRAM POLICIES & INFORMATION • All CCP students must submit required paperwork each semester during which you plan to take a class. • CMS students need to meet with their CDC each semester to complete paperwork. • You can only select CPCC classes from the approved list of Career and College Promise Courses that can be found at: http://www.cpcc.edu/hsprograms/approved-academic-pathways • There is no guarantee you will get the course(s) you want at the campus you want. ​​ • Attendance at CPCC classes is required • You must follow CPCC’s academic calendar in addition to the CMS academic calendar. You will start school in the spring at least one week prior to the second semester of CMS. You might also be attending CPCC classes during CMS holidays, fall and spring break, and teacher workdays • Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from CPCC. Butler students will not be given special consideration for a Butler parking spot because you are in the CPCC Program • Students may not stay on the Butler Campus during their CCP Block(s) ​ • ​The grade(s) you receive from courses taken while enrolled in the CCP Program will count twice (once as a college credit and once as a high school credit) • Course(s) listed on your high school transcript will be on a 5-point scale (similar to Advanced Placement courses) • CPCC tuition is waived for CMS CCP students • Due to budgetary constraints, students may be responsible for the cost of textbooks • When available, students may receive a $50.00 Barnes & Noble gift cards to help cover the cost of textbooks • When applicable the student may be responsible for and additional costs of enrollment (e.g. student fees, insurance, etc.)​​​​​

17. How Does CCP Effect my Transcript?

Courses at CPCC will count twice • High School Transcript (1 credit hour) • College Transcript (1-4 credit hours) • Some courses will have high quality points • Similar to AP courses (1 additional quality point) • You CAN complete a certificate in the area you select if you successfully complete all courses in your pathway prior to graduation, High School Transcript

19. Family Education Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA) • Federal law that governs what student information can and cannot be shared with others • Covered private educational records include: • Academic records • Accommodations • Disabilities • Class schedules • We cannot legally provide this information to outside sources – including your parents • Certain information & requests must be emailed from CPCC student account

20. Other Important Items • Student ID Cards can be picked up at any campus after you have registered for your classes. This ID will be necessary in order for you to navigate the building and utilize the on campus resources. • Parking Decals can be picked up at Levine, you will need this so you do not risk the chance of getting towed! • CPCC Book Store is where you will use your CMS issued book cards. • School Tours are not required, however are recommended for students to find their way around campus. • Students may not always get the CLASSES they WANT at the CAMPUS they WANT. • Academic Learning Centers, Workout Facilities, Disabilities Services, and Advising are available to all CCP students.
