  2. Anticipatory Set • The other night, my husband asked me for his grammar advice. What started out as my advice ended up being a debate over what is the proper tense of the verb in a sentence he was emailing to a client…

  3. Objective • Students will be able to properly use indefinite pronouns and perfect tenses after viewing the PowerPoint and completing the worksheets.

  4. Standard • Written Conventions 1.2 Identify and properly use indefinite pronouns and present perfect, past perfect, and future perfect tenses; ensure that verbs agree with compound subjects.

  5. Indefinite Pronouns • Pronouns that refer to people, places, or things without specifying which ones. • Can agree with singular, plural verbs, or both depending on how they are used. • If the indefinite pronoun is singular, it must have a singular verb. Same thing for plural; • Singular: One of the socks is missing. • Plural: Both students are missing. • Either Singular or Plural: All the cake was eaten.

  6. Common Indefinite Pronouns

  7. Present Perfect • Describes an action that happened in the past or that began in the past and continues into the present. • Formed with has/have with the past participle of the verb. • Mrs. Costa has taughtat Oxford Prep since 2011.

  8. Past Perfect • Describes an action that took place in the past before another past action. • Formed using had and the past participle of the verb. • By the time the recooked steak had arrived, the other guests at the table had finishedtheir meal.

  9. Future Perfect • Describes an action that will take place in the future before another future action. • Formed by using will have and the past participle of the verb. • When the clock strikes twelve, Cinderella will have spentthe evening at the Royal Ball.
