Student System Activities • SCT Project management and functional consultants are on site • Project team training completed in these areas • Navigation • General Person • Recruiting/Admissions/Advancement – Mid-September • Portal Project kick off – September 20, 2005

IT Equipment Environment-today UAB has two main IT Equipment Sites Central IT site - Rust Bldg. (1801 University Blvd.) • Equipment housed at this site: • Servers for our Administrative Systems • Mainframe – current Student Information System • Main telephone system • Email servers • Network equipment • Internet routers • Areas served • Research buildings • Medical Center • East side of campus West IT site – Education Bldg. (901 13th St. South) • Provides network and telephone services • Serves Academic buildings and Residence Halls
IT Equipment Environment- proposed • Expand West IT site space • Current space cannot accommodate future growth in this area of the UAB Campus • Distribute IT services more evenly between the Central and West IT site • Redundancy of services in case of disaster • Upgrade the UAB Telephone System • New architecture upgrade will allow fail over between the West and Central IT sites for disaster recovery purposes • Expansion to accommodate growth of the UAB campus and Medical Center • Existing Nortel Switch will remain in tact with software upgrade to protect UAB’s investment
Next Steps • Review by Physical Properties Committee in September • Approval to proceed with the architect/engineer selection • Develop specifications and requirements for a competitive bid process for the telephone system upgrade
