‘connote’ / ‘connotative’ • Connote = imply, express, suggest or state indirectly, implicitly, • Here we are concerned with the message intended by the sender and inferred by the receiver. • Connotative = having the power of implying or suggesting something in addition to what is explicit. • “The sounds of the words have their effect in terms of the literal and connotative meanings of the words”
