Welcome to today’s presentation on OSID by Xtralis Open-area Smoke Imaging Detection Reliable Fire Protection for Large Open Spaces Tom Stilwell – Xtralis Inc.
Open-area Smoke Imaging Detection • Dual frequency beams • Digital imaging versus photodiodes • Smart algorithms
OSID – Principle of Operation • An active emitter with wide beam LEDs transmit 2 different wavelengths, IR andUV, to the Imager • Intelligent software locates the specific pixels on the multi pixel CMOS imager illuminated by the uniquely coded emitter • Relative strengths of the 2 wavelength signals are compared to detect smoke and discriminate against nuisance alarm particulates • Only imager software tracks building movement without any need for controlled motor drives Imager Emitter Smoke IR beam UV beam Dust Obstruction Strictly confidential
UV-IR Signals • Smart algorithms • Water droplets, dust, steam do affect the IR and UV in a same way – no alarm • Genuine smoke affects IR and UV differently - alarm Strictly confidential
Resistance to dust, water spray,… Talcum powder • Talcum powder in beam worth 20% total obscuration • No Fault • No Alarm • Smoke signal out of algorithms at 0% obscuration • Water spray in beam worth 10% total obscuration • No Fault • No Alarm • Smoke signal out of algorithms at 0% obscuration Water spray Strictly confidential
Resistance to (sun)light • Unaffected by heavy halogen lights • Tolerance to bright lighting using the technique of “background subtraction’ • Operates in complete darkness Test - filter Halogen lamp Continuous Halogen lamp Flickering Normal Strictly confidential
View from the imager Emitter
Resistance to building movement/flex • 10° imager with emitter at 280 ft (86 m) • Forced misalignment - steps of 1°/min • 1° = 5 ft (1.5 m) • 4° = 20 ft (6 m) • 8° = 40 ft (12 m) • Fault at 9° misalignment – • NO alarm • Misalignment guaranteed up to 4° Step 8 Step 1 Right side Left side Strictly confidential
Resistance to reflections • Each emitter is uniquely coded • During the commissioning search, if two or more apparently identically coded and timed signals are found, the weaker ones are rejected as false reflections Strictly confidential
Installation & commissioning • Simple installation using a mounting bracket • Easy alignment with unique Laser Tool • Require only rough alignment due to the wide angle of view of the imager(s) • Up to 70% time saving compared to traditional beams • Beam length up to 492 ft • Outperforming traditional beams with 50%
Manufacturing Space 5.85 “/15 cm
Beyond projected beam detection OSID Multi-emitter Solutions
OSIDTrue Detection Innovation • Imagers can be configured with various lenses for 10°, 45° and 90° field of detection • Multiple Emitters with wide beam LEDs are placed on the opposing wall and aligned • Intelligent software locates the pixels on the multi pixel CMOS imager illuminated by each uniquely coded emitter • Up to 7 emitters may be used at the same time with a single Imager • Emitters can be positioned on multiple planes Strictly confidential
It does not have to cost more…. 3 beam detectors can be replaced by a single Imager and 3 Emitters 2 beam detectors can be replaced by single Imager and 2 Emitters Beam detector coverage OSID coverage
OSID – real life example 3 - US Adding 1 emitter versus adding a complete beam set. 190 ft Important saving on labor and wiring Important saving on testing l to do your own calculation 330-490 ft Strictly confidential and under NDA
Luxury Spaces, Hotels, Reception Halls, Atriums, Shopping Malls Shopping Malls and Gallerias 3-D arrangement may be configured to protect many Large Open Spaces. As well as overcome possible smoke stratification
Challenging applications Airports and Train Stations Non-intrusive detection in any ambient lighting Long Corridors Corridors up to 492 ft Logistics Easy installation in existing crowded floor spaces Simple maintenance with no disruption to operations
Challenging applications Suspended and Illuminated Ceilings Discreet and flexible installation Museums and Heritage Buildings Discreet and non –intrusive detection Stadiums, Event Centres and Concert Halls Multi-layer detection Strictly confidential and under NDA
Challenging applications Dirty Environments Particle size discrimination - Superior rejection of dust and intruding solid objects and safely reports smoke
OSID – Powerful Financial Benefits • Low implementation costs because of simple and fast installation and alignment • Only the imager unit is wired • Power supplied from panel • Fast and simple coarse manual alignment • Cost-effective detection for challenging buildings • Provides 50% better coverage than spot and beam detectors • Spatial 3-dimensional emitters enables wide coverage • Extra layers of detection provide improved detection time • Lower maintenance cost for larger areas • Test filter at the imager or emitter • No intervention costs for misalignment
OSID - Reliable, Cost-Effective Choice for Open Area Detection • Reduced susceptibility to false alarms • Dust and dirt • Birds and insects • Foreign objects • Fog and steam • Lower installation and maintenance costs • Easy to align • Not susceptible to building movement • Not effected by ambient lighting Innovative Technology from Xtralis
