Admission to COEDU Limited Access College • Restriction on who is admitted • Tied to State of Florida and its Legislature • Prerequisites must be met prior to admission • Separate application to COEDU Limited Admission Programs • Restrict the number and/or at what time students are admitted to the program

8. COEDU Limited Access Programs Exercise Science • Maximum 30 student per year • All prerequisites must be finished by end of Spring Semester • Fall semester admission (apply June 1 – July 15)

COEDU Admission Criteria • Admitted to USF • Separate application • 2.50 overall GPA • Includes all college level coursework • Skills Test: CLAST, Praxis I, or General Knowledge • Passing Scores on all sections of 1 test • Exemptions cannot be used; must take all sections • Exercise Science do not need • General Knowledge Test (GKT) needed for graduation • Only offered at certain times during the year • Prerequisite Courses • As identified by major (see checklist) • C- grade or higher

CLAST vs. Skills Test Requirement CLASTState/University Skills TestCOEDU Admission All students must meet CLAST: • COEDU admission requirement • Cannot use exemptions • Cannot mix/match test subsections • Must take all sections of same test (math, reading, writing, essay) • 3 Options: CLAST, Praxis I, or General Knowledge Test (GKT) • May depend on when the test is offered and when application is due to COEDU 1) Becoming Exempt: • SAT scores: 500 per section • ACT scores: 21 on English, 22 on Reading, 21 on Math • 2.5 GPA in Math and/or English courses 2) Taking needed sections (Math, Reading, Writing, and/or Essay) *Begin to have holds (TC, TS, TL) *CLAST met with FL public AA degree

Skills Test Information • Must have all sections of 1 test for admission • Missing 1 section will cause denied admission • Where to sign up: • CLAST: Testing Services (SVC 2060) • GKT: Obtain GKT booklet and mail-in form website(s): http://www.cefe.usf.edu/ and www.fl.nesinc.com • Praxis I: www.ets.org • Administration of tests vary and are limited – plan ahead! • General Knowledge • Scores are not automatically sent to College of Education; must provide copies with application (you keep original) • Online version of GKT does not have Essay section • Take as many times as you need • Do not need to retake sections already passed • Take it early – do not wait until last semester!

20. Teacher Prep Programs: Field Experience It is encouraged that you take EDF 2005 as soon as possible followed by EDG 2701 the next available semester. Both courses require mandatory fieldwork that will allow you to get field experience that can confirm or dissuade your commitment to the field of education. Peer Aides, Leaders and Mentors (PALM) Program The Purpose: • Peer Aides will contribute to the overall advising experience by assisting students with securing information about general education requirements, pre-requisites for the COEDU, specific program requirements, and application procedures.  In addition, they will share their own experiences as Education majors. Peer aides will take part in some recruitment activities; specifically out-reach to groups that are underrepresented in the COEDU.
