Using the slab you will create a vase, pitcher, or mug form. • They should be functional when finished. ie: the vase and pitcher need a base to hold liquid. • You will be incorporating textures onto the form. • At least two carved or inset relief textures. • At least one added texture. • You will be given examples of these in future slides.
You will have access to texture plates, textured rolling pins and other stamping tools to create relief. • You may use carving tools to create your own unique relief. • You may use thickened slip to create raised textures. Also sgraffito! • The added relief could be created by slipping and scoring small balls, spikes, coils, leaves etc. of clay to the outsides & rims of the piece.
Criteria Reminder • Must use the clay slab for the main body of the piece. • Must incorporate 3 plus textures onto piece. • 2 relief and 1 addition • Have the textures been created neatly? Do they flow all the way around the piece? Do they repeat over the whole piece or do we find a little bit here and there? • Does your piece follow one of the 4 forms? • Is your piece functional? • Must be glazed on the inside and outside. • Does it have smooth edges so as not to chip or cut someone? • What else do you think might be important to consider in the criteria and quality of this piece?!
