Dress-Men • Puritans dressed according to style at there time • The black attire we associate with them was only formal wear for the Sabbath • Black was also typically worn more by the wealthy, black dye was expensive. • Another style choice of Puritan men was to closely crop the hair • Royalists, or Cavaliers, wore their hair long and messy • Royalists called them "Roundheads"
Dress-Women • linen smock as their undergarment • Several skirts called "petticoats“ • Bodies, known today as a corset • A jacket or gown, probably wool, in a drab color (not black, which was an expensive dye) • A linen cap • Woolen stockings and leather shoes • Most women’s clothing was tied or laced to accommodate the changes of pregnancy
Diet • The puritan diet was nothing special • Some of it consisted of meat, fish, stew, vegetables, pudding (made from corn), popcorn, and apples • They didn’t eat much fruit because it wasn’t common to grow fruit back then • Maple sugar was the most common sweetener used
