Big Question • Can you shoot a hockey puck faster from farther away or closer. • I want to do this to see if I need to improve my shoot or not.
Hypothesis • I think that you can shoot a hockey puck faster from a shorter distance.
Interesting Facts • That the puck can go faster when you use a composite stick not a wood stick. • When I shot it from the long distance the puck had hit the ground before going into the goal net. • The shorter distance didn’t hit the ground before going into the goal net. • That the harder puck went slower then the softer puck. • That you can shoot a puck on wood floor.
Materials • You will need a tape measure, a hockey puck, a hockey stick, a goal net, a helper, and a stopwatch.
Step by Step instructions • 1. gather up all of the materials you need. • 2. have the helper on one of the sides of the goal net. • 3.Start the stop watch when the hockey stick hits the puck. • 4. once it goes past the line stop the clock. • 5. Do the same thing over again except from a different distance.
Variables • It’s a faster shot from the shorter distance (12ft.) then the longer distance (24ft.).
Observations • 1. A wood floor is okay to hit a hockey puck on. • 2. That shorter distances will travel faster. • 3. When the puck is in colder weather it goes slower. • 4.Goes faster in warmer weather.
Data • When I shot the puck from 12ft. it was clocked at 00:00:00.24. • When I shot the puck from 24ft.it was clocked at 00:00:00.36.
Analysis of data • The hot temperature will allow the puck to go faster. • The colder weather will make it go slower.
Conclusion • My hypothesis was correct that the shorter distance went faster than the longer distance.
