  1. QUALITY CONTROL: INSTI Controls Preparation/SET-UP For sampling of the controls with the provided single use short-stem bulb pipette, follow these instructions: • Open an INSTI HIV-1/HIV-2 Antibody Test package by tearing the slit found along the side, or open a box of 24 INSTI HIV-1/HIV-2 Antibody Tests and gather one of each kit materials required. • Open the individually wrapped membrane unit by tearing the slit located along the side. Make sure the membrane unit tab is facing towards you. • Locate Solution 1 and twist off the red cap, set cap and opened bottle in front of you.

  2. INSTI CONTROLS • The HIV-1 Positive and Negative Controls are used to ensure that the test functions correctly. • Controls are also run as part of your laboratory’s standard quality control procedures. • The HIV-1 Positive Control will produce a weakly reactive result in the INSTI HIV-1/HIV-2 Antibody Test. T • he HIV-2 Positive Control will produce a weakly reactive result in the INSTI HIV-1/HIV-2 Antibody Test. • The HIV Negative Control will produce a non-reactive result in the INSTI HIV-1/HIV-2 Antibody Test.

  3. USE OF INSTI CONTROLS: STEP 1 • Use a new pipette for each Control sample collection. • Take the pipette and lightly depress the top bulb.

  4. USE OF INSTI CONTROLS: STEP 2 • Insert pipette tip into the clear liquid in the control vial. • Slowly release the top bulb to completely fill the pipette stem.

  5. USE OF INSTI CONTROLS: STEP 3 • Ensure that the liquid in the stem reaches ONLY to the fill line as indicated by the arrow in the photograph. • Keep the bulb slightly depressed to retain the liquid in the stem. Do not allow the liquid to be drawn into the bulb.

  6. USE OF INSTI CONTROLS: STEP 4 • Take the pipette and lightly depress the top bulb to express the contents into the Solution 1 vial. • Use a new pipette for each Control sample collection.

  7. INSTI CONTROLS Do’s and Don’ts • Do: read and become familiar with the INSTI Controls package insert. • Do: pipette carefully to avoid over- or under sampling. Each control vial should have enough volume for 8 INSTI tests. • Do Not: return control vials to the freezer once they have been opened. Store at 2-8C for up to 28 days. • Do Not: reuse the bulb pipettes. They are single use, disposable “consumables”.
