The Department of Homeland Security • The Homeland Security Act of 2002 established DHS • The Act compartmentalizes the agency into four main areas of responsibility • Border and transportation • Emergency preparedness and response • chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear countermeasures • information analysis and infrastructure protection
The Primary Focus of DHS • Prevent terrorist acts within the United States • Reduce America's vulnerability to terrorism • Minimize the damage and then recover from attacks that do occur
