Shakespeare’s Friar Laurence • Not a bumbling magician or schemer lusting after money and women • Much more human • Does commit sin, but his efforts are often seen as noble: attempt to join the feuding families • There are two friars, and both contribute to the deaths, but the purpose, primarily Friar Laurence’s purpose is not for personal gain
