  1. Do Now • Write down 10 things that are round, or look round, be creative • Share with your table group • Choose one to share with me (do not repeat other group’s choice)

  2. Circumference & Area of Circles March 6th, 2014

  3. Behavior • Sit up straight • Track the speaker • Ask and answer • Respect others • Voice levels • Clapping

  4. QUIZ Tomorrow Be prepared!

  5. Objectives: You will be able to • Be a STAR • Know the formula for finding circumference and area of a circle • Use them Agenda • Do Now • Behavior • Circles! • Closure Homework: • Textbook P 589 #5-11 • Make a review graphic organizer

  6. Circles! What exactly is a circle? A circle is all the points in the plane whose distance from a central point is the same.

  7. Key terms • Radius (r): the distance between the central point to any point on the circle (the edge) • Diameter (d): a line that passes through the center of a circle • Circumference (C): distance around the edge of a circle

  8. Guess what this is It is a constant number. It is an irrational number and goes on forever! It is the ratio between the circumference and diameter of a circle. 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974944592307816406286208998628034825342117067982148086513282306647093844609550582231725359408128481…

  9. Formula • Circumference • C = 2 x ∏ x r (radius) = ∏ x d • Area • A = ∏ x r2

  10. Let’s try it! C = 2 x ∏ x r = ∏ x d

  11. AreaA = ∏ x r2

  12. Closure What is a circle? What is the circumference of a circle? How do you find the area of a circle?

  13. Graphic Organizer
