  7. This is the historical centre ofKrasnoyarsk. 378years ago in1628 a famous voyevoda Andrey Dubenskiycame to the mid-Yeniseyby the order of the Tsar to defend Russian settlements. He chose a favourable position for the new fort and in his message to the Tsar he wrote :

  8. “The place ispleasing,highandbeautiful. The town can be built on this place . “ The place was called“ Krasniy Yar “ and the name of the future city Krasnoyarsk originated from it .

  9. At present the only thing left from the time of the foundation of our city is theChapel. More than 370 years ago there used to be a watch-tower on this hill and the cossacks made a fire to warn the citizens about nomads’ attacks. Nowadays it has been turned into a small church and has become the symbol of Krasnoyarsk
