Introduction • There are 3 types of mainstream dehulling available: Cold, Warm and Hot • The type used is dependent on a number of factors such as bean country of origin, plant location, protein/fibre in meal requirements • For example: • If High Protein Meal is required then Warm or Hot Dehulling should be undertaken • If the plant location is a country prone to sub-zero conditions then Hot Dehullingcould be undertaken to enable the beans to reach the required temperature for processing • Warm Dehulling designed for imported beans whereas Hot Dehulling allows beans to be processing ‘straight from the harvest’ • Cold Dehulling can be used to add a Dehulling section to an existing Preparation Plant Europa Crown Limited – A CPM Company

Hot Dehulling • Up to 90% hulls removed giving up to 48% protein in meal and ≤ 3.3% fibre. • Can process beans with moisture up to 13.5% with up to 3% drying • No tempering of beans required eliminating cost of process Grain Dryer, Tempering Silos or Rotary Conditioners. • Crown Vertical Seed Conditioner (VSC) heats, dries and conditions beans preparing the beans for ultimate hull removal in only 30 minutes. • Crown Patented Jet Dryer provides a short term increase in bean temperature to create a ‘popping’ effect to maximise Hulls removal. • Gravity flow through system from Jet Dryers through Aspirators/Conditioners. • Generally only 1 stage of Cracking required unless further Protein Concentrate processing is to be undertaken • Low heating requirements due to recycled air. • Low installation and maintenance costs Europa Crown Limited – A CPM Company

Warm Dehulling • Designed for imported beans or high protein seed areas • If Raw Protein is high enough (≥ 36%) then Warm Dehulling can produce a High-Protein Meal (≥ 48%) with Double Stage Cracking • Meal Fibre of ≤ 3.5% (depending on raw seed quality) • Up to 3% drying • More commonly used for Mid-Protein (44-47%) Markets • No Grain Dryer, Tempering Silos, or Rotary Conditioners • Easily converted to Hot Dehulling – add Jet Dryer • Low installation and maintenance costs Europa Crown Limited – A CPM Company
