  1. Complete Class 8 Maths Chapter- Sets Formula Class 8 Maths chapter- Sets Formula ● A set is a collection of well-defined objects which are distinct from each other. By "well defined" we mean that given any object, we can find whether it is an element of the set or not an element of the set. Sets are generally denoted by capital letters A, B, C, ....., etc., and the elements of the set by small letters a, b, c.....etc. The collection of good students in a class is not a set since the term "good student" is vague and it is not well defined. But the collection of students in a college is a set. Get the complete CBSE Syllabus for Class 8 Maths Methods To Write A Set: ● Roster Method or Listing Method In this method we list or write down all the elements of the set in a row, separating every two elements by a comma and enclosing them with curly brackets. e.g. A = {a, b, c, d, e}, B = {1, 2, 3, 4, .....)} are sets. ● Rule Method or Set Builder Method In this case, we write down a property or rule P which gives us all the elements of the set. A = {x : P(x)} e.g. A = {x : x is a vowel} i.e. A = {a, e, i, o, u} B = {x : x is a natural number less than 5} i.e. B = {1, 2, 3, 4}. ● Finite and Infinite Sets

  2. A set that has only a finite number of elements, is called a finite set and which has an infinite number of elements, is called an infinite set. e.g. A = {a, e, i, o, u} is finite set and B = {1, 2, 3, 4, …} is an infinite set. ● Order of a finite set The number of elements in a finite set is called the order of the set A and B is denoted by O(A) or n(A). It is also called a cardinal number of the set. ● Null or Set of Empty Set. A set having no element in it is called an empty set or a null set or a void set. It is denoted by ∅ or {}. e.g. A = {x : x ≄ x} = ∅. A set consisting of at least one element is called a non-empty set or a non-void set. Singleton Set: A set consisting of a single element is called a Singleton set. e.g. The set = {a} is a Singleton.
