  2. Multiplying Decimals • Step 1: Line up the numbers as if there were no decimals • DO NOT add “0” as place holders • Step 2: multiply as if you had whole numbers • Step 3: count the number of decimal places in each number • Step 4: the total will be how many decimal places are in your answer

It must be a whole number. • Rule 2: if you move the decimal in the divisor (outside number), you MUST move the decimal in the dividend (inside number) the SAME number of places. • Rule 3: after moving the decimal in the dividend, shift the decimal UP into your answer, immediately.
