Childhood Born on March 3,1962 in East St. Louis Illinois, Jackie grew up in a neighborhood invested with gangs and drugs in a house that she remembers as “less than paper and sticks”. At the age of 9 she joined the community track team. In her first race she finished last and says now “All I wanted to do is get better.” Jacqueline became a fan of Evelyn Ashford while watching the summer Olympics in 1971.Jackie competed in the Junior Olympics ,she ran 5 track and field events and a pentathlon . She was named national champion.
Records Jackie Joyner-Kersee has set the record for 50 meter hurdles and still holds the record for the female version of the heptathlon at 7291 points.

Olympic Games Jackie went to the to the Olympics 3 times. The first time she placed 4th at the age of 18. She came back four years later and made the Olympic team. There she missed first by scant .33 seconds . The third time she set her record at 7291 points for the heptathlon.
Heptathlon A heptathlon is a race that includes 100m hurdles , high jump, shot put , 200m , long jump, javelin throw ,and 800m sprint.
