HISTORY & GEOGRAPHY • Inuit always lived in the Arctic. • They lived off land. • They hunted seal, whale, caribou, walruses, musk oxen, and polar bears. • They also fished. • They made clothes from skin and fur and tools from animal’s bones. • Europeans came in 1500’s and claimed Inuit’s land, Inuit fought to keep their land and Inuit got their land back in 1900’s. • Inuit culture began more than 1,000 years ago, they hunted bowhead whales and other mammals.   5. HOMES • Inuit built many types of homes. • Inuit who lived next to coasts had homes made from sod, whale bones, and rocks. • Inuit stretched caribou skins over wood frames and had summer tents made from seal skins. • Most Inuit have modern wood homes. http://www.migrations.com/ MAIN MENU

  8. CUSTOMS & RELIGION • They believed in Christianity • They believed all living things have a spirit, when a hunter killed animal, they asked for it’s spirit to return to the world.
