The Episcopal Church of the United States (ECUSA) • The Episcopal Church is one of 38 autonomous churches in the Anglican Communion, totaling more than 70 million members in 164 countries. • The Church is composed of nine provinces, organized geographically, and 100 Dioceses. • Colorado is located in Province VI.

  5. Vestry Relationship Expectations National Canons for Vestries: • Legal representatives of the Parish in all matters concerning corporate property • Relationship of Parish with clergy • Standard Business Methods followed

  6. Relationship Expectations Diocesan Canons • Meetings called with reasonable notice given to all. • Election procedures according to By-Laws • Treasurer provides monthly financial statements to the Vestry • Stewardship Campaign Annually

  7. Bishop’s Committee Responsibilities • Appointed by the Bishop • Operating division of the Diocese • Funds in name of church and the Diocese • Treasurer to provide monthly statements • Follow Guidelines for Missions • Diocese owns property

  8. Government Relationship • 501 (c) (3) Registration • Use of Diocesan Sales Tax Exemption • All missions and parishes must obtain their own FEIN (Federal Employer Identification Number)
