  3. Phonograph • Invented by Thomas Edison in 1877 • Consisted of Two Units: • Recording • Playback • Unintentionally began the music industry

  4. The LP • Columbia Records: first to introduce the LP (long play) vinyl record in 1948 • RCA (Radio Corporation of America) introduces the stereo LP

  5. 8-Track • Contains plastic cartridge and rotating magnetic tape inside • Tape rotates at a constant rate • Short-lived

  6. Cassette Tape • Phillips: first cassette in 1964 • Noise reduction system introduced in 1966 • Different sizes, lengths and more portable
