Overview R&D Center . • Administrative structure that processes R&D transactions in campus • Is the UPRM unit in charge of promoting, managing and disseminating externally funded research activities on campus • Where are we located? • Expertise in procedures and compliance with: federal and local government, industry, and the academic sector
Mission, Vision and Values MISSION To promote, develop and facilitate creative endeavors, research and development at the University of Puerto Rico – Mayagüez (UPRM) that foster the technological, economic and social wellbeing of Puerto Rico, in collaboration with government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the private sector. VISION To become the entity responsible for establishing world recognition of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez as Puerto Rico’s leading institution for research and creative endeavors, and the greatest contributor to the socioeconomic development of Puerto Rico. VALUES Integrity, Responsibility and Commitment: To conduct our work with integrity, responsibility and sense of urgency, and with a strong commitment to the institution, the community and the environment.

New Research Incentives • Puerto Rico: New Tax incentive for RO1-type Researchers in Puerto Rico (2008): “Ley de Incentivo Contributivo a Investigadores Científicos”. • This law pretends to retain and attract highly competitive researchers to Puerto Rico to advance the scientific and economic development of the island. Researchers or scientists who receive a competitive research grant (RO1 or similar), may have their salary and compensation exempt from taxes.
