  8. Women’s Initiative • Help at-risk kids succeed in school • 24,000 backpacks • In 2011, plan to launch a targeted pre-school preparation program • Middle school math and technology grants • Parental involvement incentive programs in elementary schools www.stclairfoundation.org

  9. Youth Advisory Council • Conducting county-wide survey of high school students to prioritize youth initiatives • Mini-grants to elementary schools • 34 students representing 10 high schools www.stclairfoundation.org

Scholarships • In 2010 – 56 scholarships, $100,000 • Impacts students throughout St. Clair County • In the past 2 years, we have received planned gifts for scholarships totaling over $3m • New Port Huron Scholarship – In part due to our increased collaboration and visibility www.stclairfoundation.org

  11. Education Task Force • Support programs that keep kids on a path toward some type of college education • Awarded $295,750 (2008 – 2011) • Funding source for KnowHow2Go www.stclairfoundation.org

  12. BLUE MEETSGREENEducation and Workforce Committee GOALS • Develop an outstanding workforce; • Enhance educational systems; • Foster strong alliance among local businesses, educators, community leaders • Increase the percentage of adults with an associate degree or higher;

  13. BLUE MEETSGREENEducation and Workforce Committee GOALS • Attract the jobs that will bring educated young people back to the community; • Increase the region’s awareness of the importance of education; and • Increase the awareness of available workforce training programs.
