  2. Activities may include: Sibshops Benefits Sibshops are nationally recognized programs for brothers and sisters of children with medical or special needs. Sibshops provide children with an opportunity for peer support in an exciting action-filled environment designed to celebrate the contributions made by brothers and sisters of kids with medical needs. • Sibshops help expand your child’s support circle by meeting other children who also have siblings with medical or special needs. • Sibshops allow your child to share ideas and learn new coping strategies to address common situations faced by other siblings who have brothers or sisters with special needs. • Sibshops can help your child strengthen relationships with his or her sibling. • Although Sibshops are not a form of therapy, they have been found to be therapeutic for some children and teens. Backlash – An exciting relay race with a twist! Group Juggling – Don’t drop the ball in this zany game of catch! Drum Circle and Songwriting – Expression through music! And much more! Sibshops make a positive impact • In a 2005 University of • Washington survey of previous • Sibshop attendees: • 90 percent said that Sibshops had a positive effect on their feelings for their siblings. • Over two-thirds of respondents learned coping strategies. • Three-fourths reported that Sibshops positively affected their adult lives. • 94% said they would recommend Sibshops to others. • Source: The Sibling Support Project What kids say about Sibshops “At Sibshops you can talk about the good and not-so-good parts of having a brother or sister who has special needs.” “At Sibshops you get to meet other brothers and sisters of kids with special needs.”
