Employers Employers are asking their future employees and their current employees for their Facebook password. To see if there is anything inappropriate like a bad comments about the company. Companies also say it help them investigate bad behavior and sexual harassment charges.
Employees • Employees say Employers should not have access to Facebook because it is their private information. The Employees should not have to show companies what they say type on Facebook because it corresponds with the first amendment to be able to say what ever they want to. Facebook is also against this act because it takes away the people privacy and they will expose the employers and pose a lawsuit.
Pros And Cons • Employers can see their Behaviors. • An Employer would be able to see how professional that person was • An employee may want some of their personal life to be public because they may not be interested in potential employers who would not accept it. An employee may be interested in weeding out potential employers. • Complete invasion of privacy – any divulging of passwords seems intrusive. • A professionals personal life should be just that- personal • EEOC issues- sex, race, age etc. are listed on Facebook – however, this sort of information can be obtained during the interview process • it would potentially put employers in breach of the Data Protection Act because it would constitute "excessive" information about an individual
